What are regular donations?

Regular donations are a way for you to support a charitable organisation on a regular basis. On the TWINT Giving Portal this feature is now possible for some organisations. 

This means that after a quick set-up (c.f. Question: “How do I set up regular donations?”) your monthly contribution is transferred to the organisation of your choosing without any additional effort on your part. This way you provide a steady and reliable source of funding to the organisation you care about. Plus, you can cancel anytime.


Why are regular donations important and what impact do they have?

Regular donations provide the foundation for transformative change. They also have a greater impact than single-time contributions for several reasons:

  • Consistency for NGOs and their Causes: Regular donations ensure organisations have a stable and predictable income. This allows them to plan their programs, and respond to current needs more efficiently.
  • Sustainability of Efforts: Many charitable projects, such as education programs, healthcare initiatives, or disaster recovery efforts, require long-term commitments. Regular donations provide the funding needed to maintain these ongoing efforts without interruption.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Administrative costs associated with one-time donations are higher. Regular donations reduce these costs, allowing more of your contribution to directly benefit the cause.
  • Faster Response in Emergency Cases: Regular funding enables organisations to react more swiftly when disasters strike or urgent needs arise, saving lives and reducing suffering.

What are the benefits for me as a donor?

  • Convenience: Once set up, your donation is made automatically each month. You don’t need to remember to donate regularly. You can view or stop your regular donation any time by accessing your profile (c.f. Question: “How can I change or cancel my regular donation?”).
  • Budget-Friendly Giving: Regular donations allow you to spread out your contributions over time, instead of having a large single expense. This way you can always support your favourite organisation in a way that fits your personal circumstances and goals, starting from below CHF 5.- per month!
  • Deeper Connection to What You Care About: By giving regularly, you become a part of an organisation’s mission and a steady contributor to their success! If you choose to allow this option, you will receive updates and see the long-term impact of your contributions.
  • Tax Benefits: All organisations represented on the TWINT Giving Portal are charitable and tax-exempt. Donations to these organisations can generally be deducted from your taxes. How do I find an organisation to donate regularly to on the TWINT Giving Portal?

There is a dedicated page with a list of organisations you can donate regularly to. This is how you find it:

  1. Go to the TWINT Giving Portal
  2. Scroll to the section “Regular donations” and click on it
  3. There you will find a list of all organisations and purposes you can donate regularly to

How can I set up regular donations on the TWINT Giving Portal?

If you have found the organisation you wish to make a regular donation to (c.f. Question: "How do I find an organisation to donate regularly to?") and are on their organisation page, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the “Donate now” button
  2. Select the option “donate monthly”
  3. Set the donation amount and click on the “Continue” button
  4. Check your personal details and complete them, if necessary
  5.  Confirm the regular donation set-up by clicking on the button “Donate CHF XX each month”

How can I change or cancel my regular donation on the TWINT Giving Portal?

This is how you access the regular donation options:

  1. Go to the TWINT Giving Portal
  2. Open your profile by clicking on the profile icon in the top right
  3. Click on the menu item “regular donations" 

This is what you can do regarding your regular donations:

  • You see your regular donation amount and the organisation you donate to
  • You see how much you have donated to the organisation to date
  • You see when your last charge was and when the next one will be 
  • You can cancel your regular donation

Why should I choose the TWINT Giving Portal for my regular donations, instead of other channels?

We encourage donating regularly to a charitable organisation via any channel (c.f. Question: “Why are regular donations important?”) but there are major benefits from doing it on the TWINT Giving Portal:

  • Small amount, make it count: On the TWINT Giving Portal you can donate regularly starting from CHF 3.- / month. Many other channels rarely accept amounts less than 10.- / month.
  • Stay flexible, according to your current focus: On the TWINT Giving Portal you can manage your regular donations to several organisations in one place. So if you decide to change the organisation you give your regular support to – for example to support a current emergency – you can do so easily.
  • Don’t worry about background checks: All organisations on the TWINT Giving Portal are verified. So you don’t need to worry about their legitimacy, simply set-up your regular donation based on the causes that you care about.
  • Full overview and control: Thanks to your profile on the TWINT Giving Portal you have full access to data regarding your regular donations, such as an overview of the amount you have already donated in total or when your next charge is (c.f. Question: “How can I change or cancel my regular donation?”). This is often not the case on other channels.
